CBT (Compulsory Basic Training)

This is not a test, it is a training course. You do not pass it, you complete it. The course usually lasts a day and is a made up of five elements.

* Introduction and discussion on safety clothing and equipment
* An eyesight check, machine controls explained, mechanics, basic maintenance and requirements
* Riding & control exercises in the off-road training area
* Lunch break and discussion about riding on the roads
* A few hours Road riding under radio direction from your instructor.

If you have never ridden a powered 2 wheel machine before we strongly advise you attend an Introduction to Biking course first. This will make your CBT course itself much more enjoyable.

If your instructor thinks that you require longer than the one day course this to be safe, then you will be given further instruction at no extra charge.

Following a successful completion of the CBT course, you are entitled to ride any bike (automatic or manual) up to 125cc (50cc if under 17 years of age), but you should be aware that you are still very much at the learning stage, and further supervised assistance should be built into your plans for the future.

If you choose not to move on to take the DSA Progressive Access, 125cc Test, or progress onto Direct Access (DAS) you will need to re-attend and renew your CBT qualification after two years.

Please note new licence restrictions come in on the 19th January 2013 which may affect you if your are wanting to take your motorcycle test.

Over 16 you have a choice for your CBT. Either an automatic scooter or a 125 geared motorcycle.

CBT125 + course
If you have extensive recent riding experience, or if your currect CBT is about to expire, and you are looking to take your 125cc restricted test (restricted to 33bhp machine for 2 years) then 90-ONE Education have developed a course for you. The "CBT125+" not only gets you your CBT (DL196) certificate, but also prepares you for the module 1 test. You must have completed your theory test before booking onto this course.
